2021 is the 1500th anniversary of the birth of St Columba
Bòrd na Gàidhlig are coordinating a year of global celebrations marking St Columba’s birth in 521AD – entitled Colmcille 1500.

“Colmcille 1500″ will last from 7th December 2020 to 7th December 2021.
And they are hoping that communities and organisations with St Columba related sites and heritage will come together and co-ordinate their events.

St Columbas Trail Discover the story of Colmcille – St Columba – the Irish saint who set sail from Derry in 563 to found his monastery on the Scottish island of Iona.

Early Uist Saints Project Ceòlas has been conducting research into the story of early Christianity in Uist, including those saints who came after St Columba. Placenames, manuscripts, Gaelic oral lore and other sources all help to illuminate this history.
